Eco Innovators-Ye es un grupo diverso dirigido por Muneer Al-Ashmali, de la ciudad de Taiz. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nuestro equipo incluye empresarios sociales, dirigentes gubernamentales, comunicadores, expertos, especialistas y voluntarios de apoyo. Estamos unidos por nuestra pertenencia com\u00fan a la ciudad de Taiz, impulsados por un sentido del deber hacia nuestra ciudad y una pasi\u00f3n por encontrar soluciones innovadoras al problema de los residuos de la ciudad. Como parte de una actividad de empat\u00eda, realizamos actividades de divulgaci\u00f3n y entrevistas con quienes recogen y buscan materiales reciclables de un lugar a otro, con el objetivo de comprender su sufrimiento, sus preocupaciones y sus aspiraciones. Descubrimos que acercarnos a estas personas ayuda a que nuestros sentimientos y mentes trabajen en armon\u00eda mientras desarrollamos estrategias y trabajamos para solucionar el problema de los residuos en Taiz.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A mediod\u00eda, con mi equipo fuimos al vertedero, donde trabajaban algunos de los recicladores. Esto formaba parte de una actividad de empat\u00eda. en la que quise participar, con el objetivo de conocer las historias y aspiraciones de quienes suelen ser invisibles en la sociedad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Al llegar al vertedero, vi a un grupo de hombres y mujeres rebuscando entre los montones y recogiendo materiales reciclables, coloc\u00e1ndolos en grandes bolsas. Me acerqu\u00e9 a ellos con un saludo amistoso y les pregunt\u00e9 por su trabajo y sus circunstancias. Se mostraron muy entusiastas al hablar conmigo y me contaron sus apasionantes historias. Algunos llevaban muchos a\u00f1os trabajando en este campo, mientras que otros se hab\u00edan incorporado recientemente tras perder su empleo en los \u00faltimos a\u00f1os. Todos destacaron la importancia de este trabajo para mantener a sus familias y cubrir sus necesidades b\u00e1sicas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Algunos de los testimonios:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Nos levantamos cada ma\u00f1ana y salimos a la calle a rebuscar en las aceras y los contenedores de materiales reciclables. Estos materiales est\u00e1n mezclados con residuos org\u00e1nicos y suciedad, lo que dificulta la tarea. Tenemos que buscar cuidadosamente para separar el pl\u00e1stico, el vidrio y el papel antes de poder venderlos. Despu\u00e9s de todo este duro esfuerzo, lo que ganamos apenas nos alcanza.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pero, \u00bfqu\u00e9 otra opci\u00f3n tenemos? Necesitamos esos escasos ingresos para pagar el alquiler, la comida y otros gastos esenciales. Es un trabajo duro y a veces peligroso, pero es mejor que estar en paro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Esperamos que nuestras circunstancias mejoren alg\u00fan d\u00eda, pero por ahora es todo lo que podemos hacer para mantenernos y mantener a nuestras familias. Seguimos buscando y clasificando, con la esperanza de ganar lo suficiente para vivir con dignidad”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

THE UNSEEN STRUGGLE OF WASTE COLLECTORS: SURVIVING WITH DIGNITY IN YEMEN<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Discover the hidden challenges of waste collectors in Taiz, Yemen, as told by Muneer Al-Ashmali, leader of Eco Innovators-Ye.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eco Innovators-Ye is a diverse group led by Muneer Al-Ashmali from Taiz city.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our team includes social entrepreneurs, government leaders, communicators, experts, specialists, and supporting volunteers. We are united by our shared connection to Taiz city, driven by a sense of duty towards our city and a passion for finding innovative solutions to its waste problem. We are motivated by a desire to learn from the experiences of others and a determination to overcome obstacles.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We understand that the most affected citizens are often overlooked. As part of an empathy activity, we conducted outreach and interviews with those who collect and search for recyclable materials from place to place, aiming to understand their suffering, concerns, and aspirations. We found that getting closer to these individuals helps blend our feelings and minds to work in harmony as we develop strategies to address the waste problem in Taiz.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

At midday, my team and I went to the landfill where some of the waste collectors were working. This was part of an empathy activity I wanted to participate in to learn about the stories and aspirations of those who are often invisible in society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Upon arriving at the landfill site, I saw a group of men and women searching through the piles and collecting recyclable materials, placing them in large bags. I approached them with a friendly greeting and asked about their work and circumstances. They were very enthusiastic to speak with me and shared their compelling stories. Some had been working in this field for many years, while others had recently joined after losing their jobs. They all emphasized the importance of this work in supporting their families and providing for their basic needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Their words conveyed:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We wake up every morning and venture out to the streets to scavenge the sidewalks and containers for recyclable materials. These materials are mixed with organic waste and dirt, making the task more difficult. We need to search carefully to separate the plastic, glass, and paper before we can sell them. After all this hard effort, what we earn is barely enough.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But what other choice do we have? We need these meager earnings to pay for rent, food, and other essential expenses. It is a hard and sometimes dangerous job, but it is still better than being unemployed.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We hope that our circumstances will improve someday, but for now, this is all we can do to sustain ourselves and our families. We continue to search and sort, with the hope of earning enough to live with dignity.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n


We fully realize that this empathy exercise is critical to giving a voice to the hidden struggles faced by these workers in their pursuit of living with dignity.<\/strong>
